“Today, I find that what matters most in my work is the elegance and flow of a delicate meandering line, the fluidity of colour that runs as it pleases on the canvas surface, the stains that it leaves when it dries. This forms part of my initial encounter with the painting and the materials. I just let things happen. After this spontaneous intuitive initial response, starts the more contemplative phase when I let the remnants of what happened speak to me. I engage in a dialogue with the shapes and the various transparent layers. After reflection I decide to intervene. It is a process of collaboration and decision making, and I start to direct the work in one direction or another. The possibilities are infinite, and the process very exciting and unpredicted. Once the work and I come in synch, I realise that something magical has occurred. I like to surprise myself first, and then I hope to take forward this surprise to the viewer.”
