“Cutting shapes directly into colour sheets and cardboard became another way how to explore shapes and composition.  Seeing Matisse’s works in this idiom at the Matisse Museum in Cimiez, assisted me in exploring the fragility of paper and its thickness, and how it curves at times when it is not completely glued to a background.  These cut-outs had a three-dimensional aspect to them, are able to cast shadows and can even go out well beyond the restricted frame.  This exercise was both a playful one as well as a very serious approach in furthering my exploration of the abstract language.”
