EDWARD PIROTTA – SCULPTOR (1938-1968)

This book project is ready for publication awaiting a publisher and funds. Extensive research was conducted for several years in Malta, United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, Italy and Ecuador, where works by Edward Pirotta can be found.

This book is the most comprehensive study on the young prodigy, and covers a biographical synopsis, his artistic education in Malta (1953-57), his years at the Accademia di Belle Arti (1958-1962), his exhibition at the Institute for Cultural Exchanges in Malta (1958), his paintings and ceramics, and his work at Vilmo Gibello’s studio in England (1962-68).

The climax of the book is the analysis of the Blackamoors Case when Edward Pirotta in 1966 received sensational coverage in the British press.  His work featured in “The Sunday Times Magazine” in the United Kingdom of August 14, 1966.  The feature was intended to burst one of the greatest bubbles in the antique’s business both in Britain and Europe.  The magazine article was compiled by a team of journalists connected with the “Insight” page of “The Sunday Times” of London.  The book ends with the sculptor’s sudden demise and a discussion of his legacy.
